Microchip Technology Inc. is a leading provider of microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog and FPGA solutions, headquartered in Chandler, Arizona. The company was spun out of General Instrument's microelectronics division in 1987 and built its business on the PIC microcontroller, which became one of the most popular MCU families in embedded design. Microchip's portfolio includes 8-, 16- and 32-bit PIC, dsPIC, AVR and SAM microcontrollers, serial EEPROM and SRAM, analog and power management ICs, USB, Ethernet and CAN connectivity, timing products and PolarFire FPGAs. The AVR and SAM families and maXTouch controllers came from the acquisition of Atmel in 2016, while the 2018 purchase of Microsemi added FPGAs and aerospace-grade components.
